General earthing requirements for functional diagnostics systems

Earthing of functional diagnostics devices

Standards: IEC 60601-1, IEC 62353, local wiring rules

≤ 2 Ωworking earth (FE) loop resistance
≤ 0.1 Ωcontact resistance: device clamp — bar
≥ 15 mfrom other earth electrodes (lightning protection, lift)
TN-S / ITTN-C (PEN) prohibited

1Mains: TN-S or IT only

✔ TN-S (correct) L N PE PC PE and N are separate ✖ TN-C (prohibited) L PEN PC PE merged with N — noise!

The protective conductor is the third (earth) pin of the socket. Never fit a PE→N jumper in the room. IT — via a medical isolating transformer.

2“Star” layout, not “daisy chain”

✔ Star BAR PCShield* * if present ✖ Daisy chain bar PCShield* in series → ground loops

Each device goes to the bar with its own conductor. Loops pick up mains noise into the microvolt-level signal.

3Equipotential bonding in the room

EQUIPOTENTIAL BONDING BAR Device PCRoom shield* * if present to the separate FE loop ≤ 2 Ω Braided copper strap between earthing points fewer artifacts in the record Contact ≤ 0.1 Ω clamp → bar: tighten, clean, no paint/oxide

4Earthing loop requirements

  • A separate working (functional) earth, FE, independent of the hospital protective earth (protective earth norm: up to 4 Ω).
  • Distance to other earthing systems — at least 15 m.
  • Connect only through the third (earth) conductor of the socket.

5Testing and operation

  • Measure contact resistances and insulation before first use.
  • Then periodically per clinic policy (usually once a year).
  • Record the results in a log.

✔ Pre-start checklist

Mains is TN-S or IT, no PEN in the room
Device PC chassis — on the bar
Room shield (if present) — on the bar
“Star” connection, no daisy chains
FE loop ≤ 2 Ω (measured)
Clamp contact resistances ≤ 0.1 Ω
Do not switch the device on if the earthing has not been measured or the socket has no earth conductor.Prohibited: PEN conductor, PE→N jumper in the socket, daisy-chained connection of devices.

Frequently asked questions

What is CARDIOLAB for?

CARDIOLAB is a computer 12-channel ECG system for functional diagnostics rooms, cardiology, hospitals and sports medicine. Clinically it is used for resting ECG with automatic analysis and reporting, autonomic assessment via HRV and functional tests (including Baevsky / PARS), exercise testing on a cycle ergometer or treadmill (ST/HR control, PWC), phonocardiography and rapid athlete fitness assessment. Results are stored in the patient archive and can be sent to the facility’s hospital information system (HIS).

Is there a public price list on the site?

Yes. The public price list is in Resources. Download PDF: price list. For a custom configuration, send a quote request.

Does it integrate with HIS?

Yes. Results go to the facility’s medical information systems (HIS / MIS). Separately, our own solution for telemedicine consultations, storage and data exchange — CLORM — is available.

What is the warranty?

24-month warranty. Service and support for 10+ years.
